Frequently Asked Questions

Chemical Peel

What is a Chemical Peel?
Skin, like any material, is subject to wear and tear, chemical and photo degradation, and absorption of chemical pollutants, not to mention microbial invasion. Fortunately, this natural “material” has the benefit of re-building itself through an influx of new cells from the basal layer of the epidermis. However, with age, this constant supply of new cells slows, and a degraded and disorganized skin surface becomes more of the norm. Our Peel medium-depth  that penetrates your top layer of skin, called the epidermis, reaching into the dermis underneath. works by exfoliating your skin and stimulating the production of new proteins.

This procedure is commonly used to treat signs of aging, improve skin texture, and correct pigmentary issues.

Can I be in the sun after treatment?
After treatment, patients must avoid sun exposure. It is advised to wash the solution off one hour before going to bed. Skin peeling will begin after three days, and it will completely peel within a week.

Why is the peel better than laser treatments?
Any laser or IPL requires multiple sessions to achieve what the Vi Peel achieves in one session, with much less discomfort and expense.

How many treatments are required to show an improved look?
One treatment will achieve significant repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. Some conditions like acne scars, pore enlargement and hyper pigmentation might require multiple applications. It is a restorative and painless repair of damaged skin, including sun damage and acne. Best of all, it is a true aging preventative for younger skin with no visible damage.

Will results be long lasting?
Like everything else in life, skin needs maintenance. Our Peel results will last as long as skin is maintained with our recommended Derm Skin Care Line.

Does it burn?
Not really. You will feel a slight stinging sensation for a few seconds which subsides almost immediately. The peel is applied topically, and numbing of the skin takes place after the first pass. Some patients may feel more comfortable using a fan or cold air breeze.

Eyelash Extensions

Can Eyelash Extensions damage my natural lashes?
Eyelashes are made of hair, and just like the hair on your head, need to be cleansed and properly cared for to maintain their health. However, the majority of lash extension wearers are currently using inferior or damaging cleansing products that aren’t intended for use on eyelash extensions. Luckily, lash extension wearers can use CleanLASH wipes to properly maintain their lashes. The wipes are made from pure, 100% cotton and contain a moisturizing, solvent-free cleansing conditioner that won’t break down eyelash extension adhesives. However, CleanLASH can only be used on extensions that have been applied with NovaLash’s oil-proof and waterproof adhesives.

Will lash extensions impact my lifestyle and hygiene routines?
Lash extensions are meant to make your life easier by eliminating the need to apply and remove mascara and eyeliner on a daily basis. NovaLash adhesives were the first instantly waterproof, oil-proof, and sweat-proof adhesives in the world. This means you won’t experience downtime after having extensions applied. You are free to swim, exercise, and use oil-based makeup products immediately following your appointment.

How safe are Novalash products?
NovaLash was founded with the highest standards of health, safety, and quality and continues to lead the industry in the field. Unfortunately, the FDA does not test or regulate eyelash extension products for safety and biocompatibility, and most of the adhesives used by other eyelash extension companies can’t pass basic toxicity tests. NovaLash adhesives have passed toxicity testing and NovaLash continues to fight for increased regulation of the industry to ensure consumers’ safety.

How long does treatment take?
Again, depending on your needs treatments vary. Treatment times can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on what the technician feels needs done to give your face proper treatment.

No, there is no downtime after using our HydraFacial® system. You can put your make-up on and continue life as normal immediately following treatment if you wish. For best results however we do ask that if you can avoid putting make-up on do so as it allows your face to breath and can be helpful especially in the case of congested skin.

How many treatments are needed?

Depending on your specific needs you may need as few as one treatment a month.

How long do results last?

Light Therapy

How does it work?
Various wavelengths of light, which include blue, red ,infrared, and ultraviolet, penetrate deep layers of skin. The powerful lights kill bacteria, stimulate collagen, shrink pores, tighten skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on your target concern, we will choose which light will be best for your session. Side effects: NONE!

Anti Aging (LW1)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) designed to re-hydrate the face, and increase collagen and elastin formation resulting in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It aids in decreasing flaccidity, lifting sagging tissues and restoring skin tone and texture resulting in an overall improvement erasing years from the face. Ten treatments are recommended. Maintenance once a month or as needed can prolong the youthful appearance.

Pigmentation (LW2)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) intended to improve discoloration caused by sun damage, chemical build-up, and chemical reactions from chemical peels, and excessive use of skin damaging products. This process normalizes the melanin within the skin. The amount of treatments needed vary depending on the amount of damage to the skin, the thickness of the skin and the age of the client. Severe conditions such as Melasma may be best treated with a combination therapy of topical ointments such as hydroquinone and/or IPL and/or laser followed by LIGHTWAVE Therapy.

Scars (LW3)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) uses powerful Infrared and red light to stimulate the reduction of fibrotic tissue and the replacement of normal tissue. Clients usually notice softening of scar tissue. They also notice flattening and widening of the scar. This is a normal sequence in scar reduction. With several more sessions the flat, wide scar will become thinner and remain flat. Some scars may appear to be resistant to this program (hypertrophic and/or keloid). If this is the case, a customized LIGHTWAVE treatment protocol and/or additional treatment options may need to be considered.

Preventative Care (LW4)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) is designed to increase blood circulation and bring more nutrients to the skins surface which helps to keep the skin from breaking down. It also helps to normalize dry or oily skin, achieving an overall improvement in skin tone and texture.

Flaccid Skin (LW5)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) that focuses on skin retraction by increasing circulation and bringing nutrition to damaged tissue. This program is particularly effective over the abdomen, neck and upper chest. Treatments should be applied twice per week and may require between ten – fifteen treatments.

Discomfort (LW6)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and/or IR Light) specifically designed to address inflammation associated with trauma and/or an allergic reaction that causes discomfort with a focus on clients who experience persistent problems such as joint and muscle discomfort. It is also used within 72 hours of any traumatic event including post-surgical interventions to reduce scarring and encourage normal tissue formation.

Mild to Moderate Acne (LW10)
LIGHTWAVE proprietary LED light Therapy session (Red and Blue Light) designed to repair damaged skin and significantly reduce the P. acnes, the bacteria responsible for causing inflammatory acne vulgaris. 15 minutes of Blue light first enters the sebaceous glands and singlet oxygen is created. Singlet oxygen then in turn kills the bacteria. Next, the client is exposed to 15 minutes of red light. This acne treatment aids in the healing process of the skin and prevents infection and scarring from occurring.

Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to get rid of acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate faster than normal.

How much time does Microdermabrasion require?
A typical microdermabrasion face treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes. However, if you want your neck or other parts of the body treated, it may last up to an hour.

Is Microdermabrasion suitable for me?
If the goal is to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasion. However, talk to a specialist about your medical history because there are conditions such as Rosacea which may make microdermabrasion unsuitable for you.

What can Microdermabrasion do for me?
Microdermabrasion helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, fight acne and remove acne scarring, even skin tone, diminish white and black heads, minimize large pores and revitalize dull skin. Microdermabrasion helps skin regeneration by increasing its elasticity and collagen production. The skin looks fresh and feels smooth as soon as treatment is over. With micro abrasion, there is no recovery time and no discomfort.

How is the Diamond Dermabrasion different from regular microdermabrasion?
Unlike traditional crystal microdermabrasion, which blasts a stream of crystals onto the skin and then removes them from your skin via suction, the Diamond Peel uses a diamond tipped precision hand piece to gently exfoliate the skin. The risk of crystal microdermabrasion is that some crystals can be inhaled or can tear the skin or even stay lodged in the skin after the procedure. Because the procedure can be very messy when crystals are used, these old systems are being phased out. The Diamond Dermabrasion is safe, effective, gentle, clean, won't leave any residue on the skin, and allows you to see exactly how much dead skin and debris is removed.

What does the Diamond Dermabrasion do for the skin?
The Diamond Dermabrasion gently, safely removes the outer layers of the stratum corneum, and any debris on the skin such as surface blackheads, whiteheads, oil and dirt. The Diamond Dermabrasion is excellent for anyone whose skin is dull, flaky, dry, and anyone with clogged pores. The Diamond Peel can also help improve the appearance of brown pigment spots and wrinkles, and can also help patients with mild to moderate acne by opening up the pores and allowing them to breathe.

How many treatments are required?
Your skin care specialist will give you a rough idea of the number of microdermabrasion treatments needed for best results. Major changes are obvious after the fifth session, even though most patients say they observed improvements after the first two.  Generally 6 to 8 microdermabrasion treatments, scheduled around two to three weeks apart are recommended so the skin has time to recover between sessions. After the recommended number of sessions, you may have to schedule another abrasion once every two or three months, to maintain the effects.

How do I prepare for microdermabrasion?
One of the advantages of microdermabrasion is minimum pre-treatment requirements. No pre-medication is needed but you may be asked to stop using aspirin-based medicines, Retin-A, Renova, Differin or glycolic acid products. You should not have any waxing, laser treatments or excessive sun exposure at least a week prior to treatment.

How soon can I return to work?
You can return to work the minute you leave your doctor's office. If your skin looks reddish, as in mild sunburn, you can cover it up with some light make-up.

Is there maintenance treatment after Microdermabrasions?
After a complete series of microdermabrasion treatments, you may want to keep your skin looking smooth and younger by scheduling a microdermabrasion-maintenance session once every 3 months.

Who shouldn't get Microdermabrasion?
Diamond microdermabrasion can be used across most skin types with some exceptions. If you identify with any of the following categories, consider avoiding microdermabrasion, talk to your dermatologist or your esthetician before you book your first treatment: sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, scar easily, cold sores, thin or loose skin, severe acne. If you typically apply retinol or exfoliating acids and if your taking isotretinoin, accutane or another dehydrating medication to treat severe acne.

Is Diamond Microdermabrasion safe?
Yes. Diamond Microdermabrasion is non-invasive. The procedure only removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells to reveal the fresher, younger cells beneath. Regardless of your skin's condition, fine lines and age spots may be erased and acne scars and stretch marks will become less obvious.

How soon will I see results?
Immediately! After your first treatment your skin will have a fresh pink glow. It will look healthier and feel smoother and softer. Your improvement will continue throughout your treatment program.

Microneedling

What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that addresses the appearance of fine lines, acne scars as well as skin texture, tone and color. The benefits of micro-needling can include a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Rejuvapen may also have a positive effect on the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars, and stretch marks.  This treatment can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back and generally creates a fresher, more glowing appearance to the skin.

What should I expect during a Rejuvapen treatment?
A sterile cartridge containing 12 points is attached to the rejuvapen. Your skincare professional will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin prior to the procedure.  A thin layer of sterile solution is then applied to your skin and the pen setting is adjusted based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The feeling associated with the Rejuvapen is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.

Permanent Make up

How long should I wait before I can have permanent makeup applied after Botox, injectables, chemical peels or laser treatments?
Generally speaking, we recommend to wait at least one week before we apply any permanent eyebrows, eyeliner, or lip liner/color. It may be necessary to wait a few more weeks after laser resurfacing or chemical peel.

Can I have Botox after my eyebrows are permanently feathered and enhanced?
We recommend to wait a few days to let the eyebrows heal completely before Botox is injected. A brow lift should not significantly alter the shape of a permanent eyebrow.

Should I have my eyes lifted before I get permanent eyeliner?
And what happens to my permanent eyeliner when I have a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)?

The permanent eyeliner is applied directly in between the eyelashes and doesn’t move or change when the eyelid is surgically lifted. Therefore, it doesn’t make any difference whether you have your eyes lifted before or after the permanent eyeliner is applied.

Can I have Restylane or Juvederm injected around my mouth after a permanent lip liner procedure? Will it change the look of my lips?
Restylane or Juvederm can be used to further enhance the fullness of your lips and to diminish the appearance of lines around the mouth. The lip liner will not “run” or feather into the vertical lines around the lips.

Is permanent makeup similar to tattooing?
It has some of the same qualities, yet it is very different. Only specialists in micro-pigmentation can perform this procedure on the face; tattoo artists cannot. Permanent-Line uses only the techniques, tools, and pigments specifically designed for micro-pigmentation procedures, making it safe, sterile, and painless. Permanent makeup clinicians also use effective topical anesthetics that are not allowed for use by tattoo artists. Permanent-Line uses instruments much more delicate in design that provide natural-looking results.

Is permanent makeup a safe procedure?
The procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges and with digitally controlled implantation device. There are no long-term side effects; short-term effects may include some redness, swelling, and tenderness. There are no known allergic reactions to pigments.

Is there any discomfort associated with the procedure?
Unlike in tattooing or some other type of permanent makeup salons , we uses topical anesthetics that are highly effective to be applied to the treated area which significantly reduces discomfort. Typically, patients will report a tickling sensation with little or no discomfort during or after a procedure has been performed. Please be aware when booking a lip procedure, if you have ever had an outbreak of fever blisters at any point, you must consult with your doctor for a prescription of Valtrex or similar product prior to your procedure.

How long does the procedure take to complete?
The average time required for a procedure is between one to two hours.

What kind of healing time is involved? Is any care required after the procedure?
Some swelling and redness can be expected for up to 24 hours following a procedure. Cold compress helps to reduce any swelling around the eye area. The treated area must be kept clean. No makeup should be applied for several days. Some skin peeling and lightening of the applied color is normal. If any additional adjustments are desired, these will be made during your follow-up appointment. Regular routines usually can be resumed immediately after the procedure. However, tanning or swimming should be avoided for a few days. Normal healing times is between four to seven days.

Is the procedure guaranteed?
We want our clients to be completely satisfied with their results. However once pigment is placed into the skin it can not be removed.  Therefore our goal is to provide natural looking results.  However, adjustments maybe needed from time to time and clients are welcome to return as many times as needed within the first year to have their permanent makeup adjusted paying only a nominal office fee of $150.

Waxing

Is waxing painful?
Everyone is different. Some people say that it doesn't really bother them while others say its pretty uncomfortable. Typically the more often you do sessions the less uncomfortable it becomes. Its nothing like you see in the movies though!

Will this permanently remove my hair?
No, this is not a permanent hair removal process. Hair comes back thinner was its coming in again however and the more often waxing is done the less you see hair.

How short should my hair be to have it waxed?
Your hair should be about 1/4" long in order to allow the wax to adhere to the hair well and make the waxing process smooth. If your hair is too long to wax we will trim it, if its too short to wax you would have to reschedule to have the area waxed at a later time.

What do I need to do to prepare for my waxing treatment?
Nothing! Just show up to your appointment on time or preferably a little early and our esthetician will do the rest!

Can I wax during... you know... that time...?
Yes! The only issue though is that you will likely be much more sensitive down there than normal so it may make for a more uncomfortable session.

How old do you have to be to be waxed?
Its dependent on the area to be waxed. Most areas do not have age requirements.

Whats the difference between a Brazilian wax and a bikini wax?
A Bikini line waxing session waxes only the sides where your panty line touches. This keep hairs from sticking out when you are wearing a bikini or other apparel.A Full Bikini removes as much hair as you like during your waxing session from the front. You can have this area shaped however you like or have all hair in front removed.A Full Brazilian removes all the hair front and back. If you would like you can leave some hair in the front but that's entirely up to you.
